Let's use the Zay as an example. When it says 'drilling capacity: 32mm' what is that referencing? It's not z direction travel, but is it quill travel?

I would hope it's the max drill bit size, as that is only 1.25 inches...

That's something that I started leaning towards, but it's a term I don't think I'd ever seen.

it is the maximum drilling size be it with a drill or milling cutter, they usually come with a 50 mm fly cutter

Ok, thanks. The lust is subsiding. Always on the lookout though.

Selling my Tos Kurim for cheap right now... 5 grand with two quality vises, collets, boring head and bars. 4500 rpm 3 phase, 30 taper... Look for something like that. Taiwanese machines like First are a good deal usually.

Ps, theres always a way to use a bigger drill. That kind of figure assumes straight diameter shank... As opposed to a step or taper shank. Turning the shank down on lathe is the easiest workaround.

Your main limiting factor for any machines work is horsepower.

Example: a half inch drill in aluminum at it's proper speed of 2500 rpm, with a proper .006" chip load per edge (.012" per rev total for a drill) requires 1.9 horsepower. So that mill can't even drill a half inch hole in aluminum properly.. scary bad.

As I'm sure most of you have seen my small set up, I've got a question for you all. Does anyone have any ideas as to creative storage solutions for my tools and stock? I will get some better pictures of the available space here this weekend, but I need something as right now it is either in boxes or the one machinist chest I have (that is mostly full). I could try to build shelving but I don't see much space. Obviously a Kennedy three teir would be great but they aren't cheap... Any ideas?
