The feed rod looks like it's a solid rod due to all of the gunk in the threads. Don't worry, it will look used soon enough.

The bottom half of the turret is clean and ready for paint.

That's going to look better than new when your done I've been working a bit on the Van Norman. Not done by any means but I am only going for functionality. I kind of like the pealing 100yr old paint its got kind of Looks like an old navy vessel color. I couldn't help but wrap up the unfinished electrical box and test out it's new high speed of around 1600rpm. I am pretty limited with the one collet I have and I am in need of a good vise, t-nuts, hold down clamps, more endmills, scrap metal, time ect. The vid is a bit shaky and very loud! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-gLPMTUJ9E

Had tons of time yesterday. Finished off the bottom half of the turret, did the whole top half too. Took a lot of effort to get the hex shaped tool holder off and cleaned. The manual says the whole assy is 120 pounds. I bet the hex part is at least 40 pounds. Finished the sawtooth thing the apron pushes against. The middle section was pretty tough since it never got any soak time. The night ended with the turret top and bottom getting some paint.

Tonight I painted the other side of both parts. Also did the rectangle part that the mode(?) selection handle sits in. Just have the bottom edge left and that is done. Got a rack yesterday so I have a place for finished parts to keep them out of the way.

If you don't see it, it's done. Except for the apron. It's much cleaner, but still needs to be taken apart and detailed and then painted.

Thanks Ty. It's been 2.5 weeks since I got the machine. I'm confident I can have it ready for power by the 4 week mark.

As in scraping the ways? They look pretty good. I'm going to run it and see how things go. Should be able to hit some pretty good numbers, so that's not on my radar for now.

Troublesome door is off, gearbox is off and soaking. The headstock is basically done because I'm not taking the spindle bearings off and I'm not taking the breadsticks body off of the ways. I'm cleaning what I can and calling it good. There is a lot soaking right now, but I'm done removing things. Whatever is done can go back on. The other stuff is either soaking or the paint is drying. Except for the apron, still. The motor area still needs a once over, but it feels like the downslope.
