It's a big manual, but the PDF is searchable and it is relatively well laid out for finding individual bits of information as needed.

"Well I count 6 that, unless I am very mistaken, are ER collets"?
the small collets are Acura Flex 3/8" series or AF23-AF44 got 27 of them 1 holder
the medium ones are Acura Flex 1" or AF100 series got 38 of them 6 holders
the large ones seem to be TG100 only have 7 collets 4 holders

DesertT1 glad to hear you are getting started! Wish i had your mechanical engineering background to go with my cnc experience. luckly for me most parts just need 2d graphics of the basic geometry. Good luck just flip threw that manual in your spare time it might be worth even printing it for quick reference.

Interesting. They look exactly like ER collets from the outside.

Yup Ive never heard of the acura flex either. They are made by Universal Engineering theirs a bunch on e-bay. They snap into the collet nut (which has a bearing in it). The tg100 I've seen these they are huge and expensive I saw a used set for $500 on ebay.

Got the '76 Rockwell lathe moved into the shop yesterday. Wired in the new cord and she runs. There is an issue that the guy told me about when I got it. There is a FWD/Reverse switch and then at each end there is a temporary spot that is for starting things up. When you go to that start position and let go it will go back to the 'forward' position and stay running. Well, that start position isn't doing its thing. Not a big deal since a little manual help will get things going, but still an issue that I thought wouldn't be there after I found out about the 'start' position on the switch. The guy I bought it from didn't know about that part of the switch.

In the end, not a big deal. Just need some projects now, and some 3/8 tooling.

HSM Express (Inventor) question. I am trying to create a mill holder in the tool section. It is the old style Taig before they offered the ER16's. I have the sizes all done and it says 'holder cannot be selected for operation'.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it anything to do with the 1/4 end mill that I had already chosen for the tool? Total length is .7, the total length it thinks is sticking in the holder is .5, so that shouldn't be the cause for the flag IMO.

I will poke at it when I get home, assuming I am awake enough to figure it out.

Im not familiar with this program but Imo you probably don't need to modify the tool holder geometry. Just make sure you have extra room so it doesn't hit anything and use whatever tool holder the program has available. Make sure you have the tool set up right its the important part. .7" Now that's a stubby endmill. I think its saying that that tool set up with 0.2" exposed will not work with your geometry. You don't have any z depth moves over 0.2" depth of cut? good luck you prob figured it out already! keep us posted.

The mills length is 2.5 inches. It sees that part of it. I'm not too concerned about if it has my holder or the default one, but it would help me in getting things set up and familiar.

DesertT1... I looked into the issue you were having with...

A few thoughts...

Create a New Mill Holder by using the button labeled as such (You have already done this)

Create a New Mill Tool. Use the tab labeled "Holder" to select the holder you created in the previous step. Then using the "Cutter" tab, enter the pertinent data about your tool.

Now for some eye candy...

For my AWESOME girlfriend for Valentine's Day (This is the prototype)

For a customer that wants a Freak back with a cancer ribbon on it.
