Look at the heights tab and determine if the "top" of the model or stock is 0. Then determine if the setup will not allow you to go into negative number for a Z move. I can't remember exactly where I was this, but I know I did.

Might not be a bad idea on the dedicated thread.

I've changed so many things that I just started a new feature over. Is pocket not the way to go about this? I know the offsets are tiny, but this was what the defaults gave me, just wanted to show the lack of Z. I have 2 zeros in the height tab, show me the way oh CAM masters.

The issue is... It's not a 2d pocket, technically...

A couple of thoughts...

Use a 3d clearing strategy which will likely give you the results you want...

Or...

Set the the Bottom to the Stock top with a negative number to get you to the deepest part of the pocket. This *might* not work right, and simply project the outline of the top of the pocket down as deep as the bottom value.

My first attempt to toy with the heights produced option 2 as a result. It cut the outline, but again, the Z stayed at that defined height, no contouring.

I don't see 3D options anywhere in Xpress, only the 2D dropdown. Will keep looking for something resembling that though.

Try 2d adaptive clearing... That * might* work. It seems that HSMExpress is missing the 3d stuff :/

Adaptive did a spiral pattern to clear out the surface, instead of a mostly linear path like the 2D pocket. Just wondering what happened to the whole 'cut a layer, go down a step, cut a layer' situation I was more or less looking for.

I know you can do that with HSMWorks, but that is not a free program

Just for a giggle...

I thought you and Tom both had Xpress. Basically I need the same function that he used to make his ripper bodies.

I had access to HSMWorks and now I am using CAM360.

I think you will need to look around for someone with HSMWorks... Sorry
