Why do you suggest not using the punch tool? I use mine on all of my guns. I did ruin one valve by it flattening the ring around the chamber face plug. Is that your reason?

yep. that's the reason. the only time i've damaged the chamber plug was with the valve punch. i've never damaged one using the 12 gram/dowel method.

I gut my KP with a standard Sheridan valve tool. Don't need a special KP tool, if they actually do exist.

No special tool required for KP's just the standard Sheridan valve tools that is all mac1 and Plamers uses.
