P68AT Pump handle reinforcing ring?

Have any of our resident smiths modified, or think they could modify, the pump handle from a P68AT to replace the back 1/8th inch or so with a metal (brass would be nice if possible) reinforcement plate so the AT attach screw has something a little more sturdy pulling on it? Mine ripped through the delrin handle, and I understand it's a pretty common problem.

Should be a fairly straightforward job with a mill or maybe even just a bandsaw; straight cut to make a channel in the back of the pump, a quarter-circle or so shape cut out of plate, and a couple of countersunk screws to attach it to the plate. I suppose it could go over the entire back section of the handle to also reinforce the pump rod as well.

Picture of what I mean (pardon my Ghetto CAD):
