My new (to me) Nova is being stupid.

First off: I know next to nothing about how these things work other than it's a mech spool valve with a slidy barrel doohickey.

I just picked up a Nova 700 last week. Been wanting one for a long time.

It shot fine in my back yard of course. But when I took it to the chrono station at the field yesterday, it'd shoot a few fine then randomly just spit balls out of the barrel. 285, 282, bloop, bloop, 278, bloop.

It did this even when the gun was pointed upwards so I don't think it's a rollout issue. What should I look at first?

I don't really much about Novas but it could be a sticky moving part lol. Have you taken a look at the internals and lubrification?

Bless you for being man enough to take that thing out in public. Performance anxiety happens, try Cialis.

I have one of these and only know some basic maintenance. Of course a good oiling is essential. Mine usually leaks a little then seals up after a few shots. I am told this is normal. What happened to mine to cause it to quit shooting was the brass ring on the barrel had broken the solder that held it in place. Apparantly this is also common. If this brass ring is not soldered in the proper place on the barrel ( which is approximately 1 1/2 inches from the end) it will not cycle properly.

SD, dumped a bunch of oil thru it but haven't ventured to disassemble; was waiting to see if this is a known/common problem before eviscerating it.

Casey, you said you like it dry.

Jkoselka, lick my sack.

Kwik, thanks for that info, the brass rings are intact.

Curt it looked like you were having a reg problem. I would pull that out the back and look there first. It looked like your timing was set ok , so i wouldn't mess with the frame.

Is it possible to just gut the reg and, say, run a female Stab?

Trigger might be sticking a bit or not resetting fully.
