Spool valve sticking

My brother has a Nova I'm trying to help him out with. He can shoot a string of balls then the spool valve will stick. Sometimes he can manually push the barrel in and that will unstick it, other times he has to take the barrel off and push the spool in with a pencil. Any suggestions on what I might do for this issue?

He's replaced the orings but for the second o-ring from the tip of the spool he was not able to find a 109 poly o-ring so he used the 109 buna ring like the one that goes in the third slot. Will this o-ring cause a problem? I haven't had much luck locally finding a poly 109 o-ring so if I need it does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?

C5tek on here sells complete O ring kits, or he did

Well Buna is slicker than Poly, so that shouldn't cause any problems. It was lubed and everything, correct?

I think it's lubed. I'm going to take it apart and see what's up but I wanted to make sure about the o-ring.

He used the Nova O-ring chart off PBNation and got a package of each, just couldn't find that poly one so we should be good.
