Question Differences between 03' and 04' Vikings?

Other than the obviously smaller/shorter all around body of the 04', shorter lower tubes, smaller eye covers...

What are the general differences, performance, cosmetic, etc., between the 03' and 04' Vikings?

thanks,

-baller

I think the on/off switch for the trigger is in a different place only ever delt with the 04 Vik personally I know the switch is on the side there I think it's at the back of the gun on the earlier models

wire nubbin to dual ball style detentes
on off switch changed
shorter body
different ram cart and associate o rings
scm standard in later production
bolt differences.
no more nelson boards stock
different stock Solenoids

04s seem a bit faster, some hate, some love the different detentes.

other than that not much more I can think of.

Al summed it up. I owned both an '03 and '04. I found the '04 to be extremely fast (at least moreso than the '03), and slightly lighter. The balance was a little different. Construction was mostly the same, although the '03 looks slightly blockier, the '04 looks a little nicer. Other than that, not much else to tell. You can't go wrong with a Viking, find the cheapest one in the best condition you can. Then post pictures when you get it!

Right now I have 3 04 Vikings and 2 03 Vikings and I honestly can't feel the difference between them.

When I say I can't feel a difference its probably because I always try keep all of my setups as similar as possible (i.e. 14" barrels, Bob Long Gear Drops, Dye Sticky 3's). That way I can pick up any of my Vikings and rock with them

I think the '03s are thought to have less problems than the '04s. There were some issues with the ball detents/bolt positioning on the '04s that caused chopping with forcefed loaders. This is pretty much a non-issue now since there are many different fixes for this. There is also an issue with the older SCMs on the '04s. The lpr would creep easily on the SCM 1s and 2s. I beleive the SCMIII does not. This is also a non issue now since you can upgrade an older style to a 3. These 2 issues give some an impression that the '03 models are superior to the '04s.

Personally, I am very happy with my '04. It has not chopped paint without any of the fixes. My SCM2 creeps when it gets a bit dirty, but the reg is real easy to clean. I may upgrade to a 3 in the future, but I really don't see a need

I perfer 03's over the 04's. I like the internal LPR better than a SCM. and maybe that they are a little heavier, they seem to shoot smoother and a little more on target.
i also like the wire detent over the ball detents
