Big bore paint for my SL

So I walk onto the field with my SL68 2, I’m ready to rock and roll. I noticed that my paint was just rolling out which tells me that the feild paint is on the small side. Anyhoo
So the game begins and I can’t hit the “Alamo” (a 30’ long by 15’ tall fort or you can just call it the side of the barn!) from 30’ away. By paint is curving up and to the sides like I have an Apex on it…… some troll wearing color coordinated paints, shirt, socks, shoes and sweat band said “man pumps suck” So I went and got my 68Carbine I lit the kid up in the next game. Back to my sad story, The SL is very accurate when I’m shooting Big Ball brand paint; the small bore stuff kills me. What other big bore paint is out there?

When I am given the choice I shoot marbs.

You might want to consider picking up a small bore barrel and have it turned for an SL. I did that with a spare phantom barrel I had and I couldnt believe the accuracy from it. However the phantom barrel bore is just slightly smaller than a stock SL.

The few bags of sterling I used were all .688 and larger.

I too would recommend getting a smaller barrel for the SL-68. It's just too much hassle these days trying to find large paint. A few years ago I wouldn't have said this, but I think that nowadays its becomming necessary to have multiple barrels for each gun you own. I'm still a believer in one piece barrels though.

I've noticed that there's a few folks that now offer up services to ream out existing barrels to take Freak inserts. It may well get down to the point where that's the best option. Especially with older stock barrels that need to fit the body and pump handles.

If I go with an insert for what ever marker I want to put it on. What would be the cheapest and get the job done?

Here's the guy doing the boring service that I found. I thought I had another link but it was the same guy but on a discussion board at automags.org. The prices actually seem pretty reasonable to me. Knowing what would be involved I can say that he's making good hobby money but he ain't gonna get rich and retire off this....

Let your paint sit open in a mildly humid enviroment the day before you play, if possible

Most of the fields around here insist that you use their paint so we're sort of stuck with what they have.
