Is the hammer getting locked back in the rear of the breach? This happened to me when I used a longer screw in place of the rear frame screw. It would poke up into the rear breach and catch the hammer, but only when I shot balls through it. Dry firing didn't give enuff blowback to go all the way.
Maybe your screw is a little out of spec.
See if you can manually push the hammer farther back past the sear if the rear frame screw is loosened.

I agree. Its mostly like the wrong size rear screw. With the MegaZ, that screw is super-critical since it pretty much holds the entire gun together.

However, it could also be the forward quick-release cam is out of adjustment, and is rubbing against the bolt. The backpressure basically pushes hard enough where it binds?
Could also be the vert ASA has the wrong size screw.

Or, the pin for the bolt, or hammer is the wrong size. I sometimes seem those reploced with bolts, instead of pins, and they never work right.

The bumper might also be missing. That is critical, or the gun will not cycle right. If you have a bumper, but its in bad shape, try flipping it backwards.

Haveblue has some wicked good high-speed videos of the MegaZ, both WITH a ball, and WITHOUT a ball. With a ball, the bolt clearly moves at a different speed.
