Kind of Paintball related.....

I need help here guys. I'm already registered with the rest of the MOAB guys on the VC side for NJ Nam. Then, today in the mail, I got a Grand Jury selection notice. I've got 5 days to come up with a good, acceptable, reason to miss this round of duty. Duty would start on the 21st of May and continue for 27 days total. If I can come up with a good reason I can postpone it for up to 90 days. It isn't that I don't want to serve. Trust me, I've always wanted to serve on a jury, but the timing couldn't be worse!

I just had jury duty here in Connecticut. The judge was going throught the jury pool to see who had conflicts that would make them unable to serve. In addition he specifically said that if a potential juror is scheduled to go on a trip, that was a good enough reason to excuse a juror.

Why not a trip to a family reunion in New Jersey?

yeah, but DC jury duty is unavoidable. We can defer service for up to 90 days, but we can't get excused. What's more, Grand Jury duty here in the District runs for 27 days straight and only pays $30/day and I wouldn't get to keep my salary during that time since I'd be away from work so long. The only way I can get out of this in any way is to plead a financial hardship and volunteer to be dropped down to petit jury (trial jury) instead.

defer it, or get it dropped down.

People need an intelligent jury to try them... not just the schmucks that get stuck there.

Ive done it.. suck it up and do it.

Just hope that they don't have a new sous-chef when the trial is over.....

nope, it's illegal to be fired for attending jury duty

also, it's hard to keep a schedule during duty as you can be sequestered(sp?) during such duty

No, you can't be fired for jury duty... it was a bit of an inside joke. I worked for the restaurant as a server and was "taken off the schedule" for missing a shift due to lack of childcare one day. I also have a friend who was "taken off the schedule" for taking medical leave due to a brain tumor. There have been numerous times people people have been suspended, or terminated for silly reasons... much like it's at the whim of management.

Tallen's position there is secure... I was just venting a little bitterness through humor.
