Anodizing or Powder Coating ?

Hello All

I am in the process of rebuilding an old VM. Once I get all the parts that I want and get it set up the way I want, I was thinking of redoing the finnish.

My question is, what do you guys think is better? and why?, ANODIZING or POWDER COATING.

Which one should I do for maximum durabillity? and what prices to expect on both of them?

any help or knowledge that you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Lynn

powder coating adds bulk to the parts being coated, and if it isn't done right, air passages can be gunked up, the only person I would trust to PC a marker is Ken of KP customs, I think his prices are comparable to anno if not cheaper.

Anno looks prettier, and doesn't add bulk, and it hardens the sufrace of the aluminum.

I think starting prices would be around $100 for either but it goes up for more parts/ more complex finishes.

durability is a toss up, powder coating can chip, and anno can scratch, but I don't think there is a huge downside to either.

Also.. from Rainman, our expert in house anodizer , the body is slightly softer aluminum than most guns so it ano's a little differently.. you can't always match the colors with other bits if you have after market parts on it that you are also anodizing.

With Powder Coat all you have to do is cover the spots you dont want a finnish on. I.E. threads, and assembly faces ware two parst come together (if space is an issue), the inside of the gun and all other air componants.

I was kinda leaning more twards ANO anyways

I like woodsball the best and thus want something that isn't sticking out like a sore thumb.

I was just going to go basic black nothing special. I kinda like the Black Ops. look.

I guess camo would work also but then I'd want to camie the entire thing except the grips, and that would cost quite a bit more.

I realy thought about just polishing it, but if I do that it's got to be covered while I play. Otherwise it would be like a glistening becon for the enemy to zero in on

any suggestions ?

also how much would it cost to do the gun, tank, barrel and other seperate parts of the front grip I'm getting? Any Idea's on Price from someone that had a gun refinnished? or someone that knows people that do it ?

P.S. the front grip I'm getting is the Intruder, so it has a small top block that goes arround the stock asa to hold the grip on, and a bottom asa block that attaches to the grip. Both of the blocks I would want to ano (if I went with camo).

From past experinces with vm's i say go powder or duracoat. Either of those 2 will give you a better finsh then aondizing. Vm's color will very from part to part with anodizing.

WOW those guns look sweet ! Thanks for the info

Now I'm leaning more tward Dura coat than Ano also bacause Rainman said ano doesnt look the best for a vm.

What exactly is Dura Coat ? and ware do you get it from ? and how much is it ? I guess I've never seen any paint called Dura Coat

Sorry about all the questions but I want to do this right if I'm gonna do it at all. You know what I mean ! I just don't like half assing things !

Dura coat can be bought online. Just do a search a bunch of stores will come up. It's basicly a 2 part epoxy paint. Once it go's on it takes a hell of alot to get off.
