Prolite troubles

Hey everyone,

A friend of mine just found an old Prolite sitting in his garage. THe thing looks new, and is clean as a whistle. But when I air it up and fire it, it goes "full auto" until you manually stop the bolt and recocker it.
I opened it up and there is almost no wear anywhere on the bolt, sear or anywhere else (it really does look new). I did oil it thinking that maybe it was just dry, but that didnt help. I cant figure out why it isnt recockering properly.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

PS: Anyone that wants to repair it.....?

Mine did that a few times in the cold (-10 celcius). Couldn't pinpoint a cause, but it was only when there was no paint in it. Could be that the main spring is a bit too stiff and the rear bolt isn't coming back far enough to re-sear ?

It's a Tippmann Pro-lite so here is the best way to start your repairs:

3 to 5 drops of Gold Cup oil in the ASA. Screw in a tank and shoot it until the problem resolves itself. Repeat several times if necessary.

If that doesn't work, you may just need to get new o-rings and rebuild it but I'll bet the oil in the ASA will fix it.

Well Saturday in Southern NH was like 95 in the shade....and I was running CA the first time I tried it..... so it wasnt CO2 freeze up. I took my "beat ta crap but works fine" Prolite and tried switching springs, and that didnt help the issue.

Yeah that was my thinking too.... but after running thru 20OZ and a 47/3000, my "tried and true" method has failed me...

I was thinking of swapping over tragger frames and see what that does...

If it's been sitting around a while, the orings are dried up and possibly damaged. My 68 special I found and just aired up for the first time is almost 8 years, did that couple of times, and then started firing fine again.

O rings, sear, (rear bolt you said was fine) and maybe too much tension on the rear spring.

Best of luck

For what it's worth, the day I had that trouble with mine, I was running HPA and had just played a few rounds with it shooting fine.

Try swapping out the trigger assemblies though, that'd be one more thing we could check off the list then.

Two tanks pushing oil through it should have cleared it up. Probably needs an o-ring rebuild. Since you say it's like new outside and in, the odds of a mechanical failure are pretty slim. The consumable parts (o-rings) are the things that give up after years of storage.

If you have absolutely nothing to lose, you could try the oil in the ASA trick with automatic transmission fluid. It's defnitely a last ditch, Hail Mary kind of effort but if you have to rebuild it anyway, you can give it a try. It may swell those dried up o-rings enough that the gun starts working again. I personally have never done this but know a few guys who swear by the technique....Use at your own risk.

If its like new, does it still have the original buffer behind the bolt? Try taking it out. They have a tendancy to swell.

Theres a buffer behind the bolt? :O

I think I will rebuild the o-rings first, then it that doesnt work, try the tranny fluid....

What's up with the non-sequiter title. Prolite and troubles? Those words just don't go together!

If you replace the o-rings, don't bother with the tranny fluid idea. Its only purpose is to try to give the o-rings new life. Don't use tranny fluid on the new o-rings.

I'd be hard pressed to believe new o-rings wouldn't solve your issues. O-ring kits have been showing up on e-bay for around $8 shipped if you need to find 'em.
