I had that happen to me just a little while ago. Won 2 Illustrators, then right after the auction ended, I got a message saying "sorry, but I've already sold them somewhere else"
I sent him an response stating that he should have cancelled the auction.
I reported him to ebay, you'll need a copy of any email he sent you WITH the header.
I didn't send any money, but still feel ripped off. Got a good deal. (i thought)
Ebay contacted the seller and I guess warned them. If it happens more, I think they'll eventually kick him out of ebay.
Good luck.

I don't recall mentioning trades, especially not for smart Farts. Thanks though.

thems the breaks for the seller. if he has a min he wants for his item then he needs to put on a reserve or a starting bid. just because it went for less than he was wanting to accept makes no diffrence, he is in a legal binding contract and must sell the item described in the condition described

I purchased a CD on ebay a while back. The seller never sent it. I requested the tracking # since I paid for shipping insurance & tracking and the seller was a huge jerk. By the way, he was a "power seller" with 10,000+ feedbacks and 99.5% were positive. I read through his feedbacks (after I did not receive the CD) and all his negative feedback read "horrible communication, did not ship item, never do business with again".

I filed a claim through paypal and the seller had 10 days to respond. He did not and I was given a refund. I left him negative feedback and he returned the favor. My only negative feedback! I contacted ebay and they did nothing! Zero! Ebay owns Paypal and Squaretrade. In my email to ebay, I informed them that I never received the item and that I had won the paypal claim. Never the less, Ebay did nothing.

My only option was to go though SquareTrade and if the seller responded, there was a $30 charge. I let it go and now wish I would have further pursued it!

Ebay is helping themselves and bad buyers/sellers by allowing them to leave false negative feedback when they receive negative feedback.

At least half my ebay purchases were not quite in the condition they were described. Ebay need to cleanse themselves of the deadbeats that are on there.

Wait till the last day and hit him with negative feedback!

You can indeed respond to Neg feedback on Ebay, I don't believe that the feedback will go away, but your reply will stay posted to what he wrote.

However, both buyer and seller can go back and forth time and time again till one just stops. It's like myspace drama for adults.
