Deffinately a Featherweight. Id make sure you have paperwork done on that bad boy. With the longer barrel your safe (assuming its over 16"), but the 10" barrel in as you have it arranged makes it an NFA Class III firearm. That is a $200 tax stamp for an SBR (short barreled rifle), and requires a Form 4 in most states. Takes a few weeks to file. Also, having the short barrel, and the firearm, in your home is considered intent to install, and is a legal offense. Although, I am unsure of the penalty. I know in PA its a pretty big fine, and some jail time.

Just giving you a heads up.

Are you going to go get it? Just curious, what is he claiming it is and selling it for?

I'd be very concerned about any scenario in which someone is trying to sell a firearm that is very illegal in many juristictions as a "paintball gun".

He has it listed as a 98... I talked to the people at exoticgunz and the fella i talked to actually owns a feather 22 he said it's a cool gun.. and that i should just buy it as a rifle and leave the small barrel behind. that is unless i want to go through the red tape.

Another thing to watch for:

If the current owner has the gun registered as an NFA firearm, you may have to cut some tape even if you leave the shorty barrel behind. NFA firearms are registered by the serial number on the firearms reciever, not by the serial number of the individual part.

If you do end up picking it up, be sure he is also liscensed to SELL a Class III firearm, or he could get in some legal trouble as well. The law is very strict about restricted firearms.

At one point, I owned a Featherlight .22, and it was a sweet little shooter. But there is something about this scenario that just doesnt seem right. Im on the same page as WilD on this one, I think Id be very cautious, or just leave well enough alone.

Just my $0.02.

If my memory serves me, firearms sales (yet alone sales of restricted firearms) are against Craigslist policy. So using an NFA Class III firearm as a placeholder picture for a paintball marker with widely available stock photo images (which is perfectly within Craigslist policy to sell) wouldnt make a whole heck of a lot of sense...

I am assuming that this was posted on CL judging by the image link?

I've seen a few times in the past where people would sell their real steel guns on Craigslist but call them paintball guns to try and get around the no guns policy, usually with "really, these are paintball guns, don't flag me" in big bold letters.

The short barrel might just be a display barrel. I know some of the semi auto Uzi's used to have an unbored barrel that you could put in when it was hung on a wall and a 16" real barrel for shooting.
