Question New to EBay question?

So only recently starting to buy on EBay I have come across my first problem after 75 or so transactions.
I recently received an email from the seller stating...

Hi, please DO NOT pay for the item yet. There was a problem with auction and it didnt put the reserve price on. I don't want to sell this barrel for anything less than $25. Are you still interested in buying?

Now I am not interested in buying for $25 hence my max bid being what it was
so my questions would be...

1. would this constitute an "offer to buy outside of EBay" - Should I just report it and let EBay deal with it and forget and "ignore the seller"?

Trade safely. Beware of anyone who contacts you about buying or selling outside of eBay. When you trade outside of eBay, you're not able to leave feedback or take advantage of protection programs and case resolution tools available on eBay. Report an inappropriate email.

2.Should I contact the seller and ask that they honor their deal and sell it to me for the agreed upon price and if they have an issue with the auction to have them contact EBay?

3. Basically just asking what I should do - first "stupid EBay" problem?

Report it to eBay. This is classic seller remorse. They can't MAKE him sell it to you, but they can create serious problems for him for reneging on the contract. Also make sure you leave negative feeedback.

I would go route two and say that you won the bid and they entered in a contract by putting it up, so you expect them to honor that contract. If they still refuse to sell it to you for the price you won it for, report it.

i agree with Snoopay... give him ONE chance to do the right thing and make it clear you will follow through with ebay if he does not honor the contract. He definitely clicked "I Agree" to their T&C before posting his auction.

decided to give them 24hrs to respond sent this

I have no interest to pay more than what I WON the auction for which was the $5
If you had a problem with the auction you could have pulled the auction and contacted eBay yourself
IF you do not feel responsible enough to honor your contract with me THROUGH eBay for the price stated let me know now
YOU agreed to abide by the T&C for eBay auctions
I am ready to pay what I owe for the auction and am ready to honor my part of the deal made THROUGH eBay
IF you do not I will just contact eBay and let them deal with the situation as I do not need the hassle
I will give you 24hrs to respond before I contact eBay
Sincerely

pretty sure I was to the point without being a jackass about it?

Sounds good to me, they might be mad about it, but then again the person doesn't seem to be the most mature person.

Well last month I had to eat profit via shipping cost, I chalked it up to a learning experience. Buyer left me fantastic feedback! So I'm happy. I never try to rip people off, just make a few extra ducets.

i won a bid once for a phantom and full freak kit and a bunch of extras ,there was no reserve and there was nothing about shipping only to the us ether ,got it for less than 200 then the seller refunded my money and said he would not ship to canada ,told him i would pay the shipping still said no he just did not want to loose ,ebay said he had the right to refuse to ship to canada ,, he should have stated it in his auction .but he just used it as a loophole

Its happened to me many times. Usually its sellers remorse. Occationally its a legitimate mistake. Ie seller mispelled the title, or used the wrong picture in the auction, which led to the auction ending for a low price. In those rare cases, I'm more then willing to work with the buyer. (ie maybe he might give me free shipping on another auction, etc).

But most are the "It ended lower then I wanted". That is a major violation of Ebay TOS. If they did not want any risk, then they should have used a reserve... (and I -never- bid on reserve items), but reserve auctions generally end for less money.

I've also eaten my share of bad listings. Sometimes I underquote shipping. Thats MY fault. Sometimes things sell for 1¢ that were worth $20. I don't complain. Why waste my time, and risk hurting my perfect feedback?

Likewise, this looser is now going to fight with you and ebay and paypal over $20.... that he has no right too. He will loose regardless

IMO you should have just paid for it and locked him into the contract further.
