So I've been looking at this here TASO Stockgun I have, and it's a pretty nifty old Nelson. However, I noticed a few mods it could benefit from. Chiefly, an anti-double-feed detente. Also, maybe some simple cosmetic milling, and maybe a cool ano. A custom pump handle would be a cool thing to have as well. The barrel has already been bored for Freak inserts. I bet I could port it nicely... BUUUUUT, I know these things are pretty uncommon. That aside, their resale seems quite low. Would it be "kosher" to toss one under the knife? I prefer a gun I can play with and mess with, as opposed to a collector's piece, so if any one has any insight/objections, I'd like to hear them. Thanks all! Edit: Attn: Chubs, this was another reason I couldn't nab your Blazer. I told Clearush I'd grab this one off him before-hand. Sooooorrrry. Last edited by Magoo; 06-28-2012 at 10:29 PM. |

Do it. TASO wasn't widely known for their quality, or their rarity. They were the kings of the aftermarket Nelson knock-off parts. Their guns were mediocre at best. They could be turned into heartbreakers with the right parts, none of which however were manufactured by TASO. (I always liked their Stock Gun and the Spartan line-great place to start, incredible amount of room for tweaking) |

Im sure it wont be much of a crime since theyre mot very valuable. You could cut some slots into the 10 round tube reciever thing and maybe shave it down a bit more

Goody goody! I already have some ideas. I love the integrated cram-n-jam body, and the dual pump-arms are nice and smooth. With a frame swap, redoing of the internals, and some CNC mill time, this thing could be sweeeeeet. Edit: Woouulf, check out Vintage Rex. I can't get pics right now, but it's bone-stock. |

I would love to own one of these, ever since I first saw a picture of one I basically fell in love. I would somewhat disagree with one being modified to that extent, but at the same time, they're not really too special in any way, so it wouldn't be some huge crime. Just don't mill off the feed block. None of the things you're planning sound too horrific at least. Do you really need the detent if it's already Freak bored? Using tighter inserts would probably alleviate the double feeds just as much as a detent would, no?

It would still be distinctly "Stockgun," just... better. The integrated cram-n-jam is my favorite ammenity, so I wouldn't do anything to take away from what it is as a marker. I'll work up a sketch of what I had in mind. As for the double-feeds, the bores may help. I haven't got a chance to play with it yet... |

This thing is kinda cool. Tore it down to inspect the components. It looks to be all Bushmaster-spec internals. The power tube is a Line-SI #4, and the hammer is nice and smooth, and tool-mark free. The bolt is adjustable, and weighs a ton. I can't figure out if the guts, outside of the power tube, are Line-SI or stock TASO. Either way, it looks like this thing could be a great shooter! Now I just need to go shoot it. |
