Replace phantom 12-gram seal

I have a vertical 12 gram air supply for my phantom. There is a rubber washer/seal that surrounds the piece which pierces the top of the 12 gram. Mine is leaking CO2, and I have the replacement washer/seal from CCI. How do you get the old one out?! I have tried a needle and needle nose pliers. What is the trick? Thanks.

I use a dental pick, poke around the pierce pin. It's in there tight.
