Maybe the stock battery died and instead of getting a replacement that fits in the tube, the guy just used a generic battery box. Making that pack isn't so easy.

What kind of chip does the led run off? Taking a picture for us might help confirm what it is. If it's something like a morlock board the box could very well be an adapter for a pc or something, or of course could just be an extra battery? On that note, is there a battery in the driver's side lower bore (assuming you're right handed/live in the state

).

Looks like a regular 6v AA battery box to me.
