? for the home machinist and electric motor experts..

I am in the process of building a DIY vibrating parts cleaner. My question for you is what media do you all use, for the different processes?

Removing machine marks and polishing prior to anodizing is what I am most interested in knowing. And a good source of the products.

Thanks

Ok so this isn't a machinist only question, Like I said I am building a vibration parts tumbler, the motor I had planned on using is not any good. I have another motor at my disposal off of a mini lathe, specs are : 1/2 HP., 110v, single phase, 1.2amp, 60 htz. My question is can this motor be plugged directly into household current?

Thanks.

Yes. US is 110V/60Hz and 1.2A isn't very much considering your breaker is probably 15A or 20A.

Plugged it in, it worked fine. For about 10 seconds. Then smoke and got very hot. Back to the drawing board. I am now 0/2 with motors for this project.

the minilathe motor is a DC not AC motor. it may be salvageable. look on the sides you will see the brush covers near the bottom, unscrew them and look at the brushes. if they are burnt then just replace them. you can use rectifiers to convert the AC from the wall to DC. I can help you build the converter if you salvage the motor.

That make sense to me. I already have a replacement motor. But if it doesn't. Work out I might just take you up on the offer.

Thanks
