Polishing brass

So, this is my marker:

And i want to polish it up and make it all pretty. But i'm curious what steps some of you guys have taken to remove the paint and polish your guns.

I use a fine brass wire wheel to clean off the original coating, then sand with 600gr, 800gr, 1200gr, then buff with jewelers rouge, and a cotton buffing wheel.

i'd uae a paint stripper instead of a brass wire wheel brush. stripper would be much easier i think and it will remove the paint without scratching the brass.

as far as polishing goes... after stripping, look at the brass real good for pits, dings, and scratches and see how deep they are and decide if you want to really take off that much material to get them all out. if there are any deep inperfections, i'd suggest just leaving them, otherwise you'll have to remove a lot of material to get them out and it can leave dips in the brass and look like ****. if there are no scratches after stripping and the brass is smooth, i'd go straight to using a polishing compound on a cotton wheel. if there are minor inperfections in the brass after stripping, use the finest material (sandpaper, steel whool, scoth-brite, etc...) you can use to get those inperfections out and work your way up to the polishing compound.

That tank looks like brass, though I know it isn't. Is that the result created by the light in the room? Or was it annoed in gold?
