Knee pads (Help me save my knees)

Here in rocky So cal, knee pads are a must if you do as many adrenalin fueled action dives ":gunsfiring:tactical face plants :gunsfiring:" as I do. Wondering what my options are for knee protection. I would be willing to spend up to fifty dollars, but would like to spend less.
So far I've thought about:
Paintball knee pads
army surplus knee pads
volley ball or some other impact sport knee pads
What are the pros and cons?

Might want to consider motocross pads as well. I have bad knees but I still haven't found anything that is protective and comfortable.

What pads do you wear?

I have a pair of smart parts gel knee pads I bought in 07 that are comfortable and they were like $30 new I have heard good things of dye and eclipse but both are expensive

I wore DYE kneepads (Circa 2002 or 2003) up until this year. Now I wear Kali Aazis pads. A bit more than your budget, but some really good knee pads.

I've used several paintball and military style. The issue for me is always that the straps behind my knees over stretch the knee when I am squatting. Every pair I've gotten I wore for about half a day then took them off. I would think something like spandex would work better than traditional straps - they're too bulky.

I wear a pair of JT Skinz with a pair of hard APP knee/shin pads over them. I have been using them for years, the APP pads take a while to break in but they are comfortable and offer a lot of protection.

Best bang for your buck. Skateboard ramp pads. Amazing protection, can be had for 30 bucks. They do hinder your running speed a bit but its a fair trade for price and protection.

I have used the 2012 Planet Eclipse Knee and Elbow pads for all of 2012.

I really like the pads, no major rips or problems and I dive/slide every chance I get.
