Pads to grow into

I've been taking my nephew paintballing for two years now. In spite of my balking, the young man insists on playing in shorts. He's 14 and his younger sister is a head taller than him, he's a little delayed in hitting that growth spurt. I've been teaching him that in paintball, height doesn't matter it can be an asset.
He wants to do some speedballing this Spring and I'm not going to watch that kid dive into the snake with nothing on those bony knees of his.
I'm asking the experts what brand of knee pads will be the most forgiving if he starts growing like a weed in the Spring. I'd like him to get at least a full year out of them.
Thanks for the help.
