Twinky is boring a dye phantom barrel, and a dye raptor barrel for me right now. I will also soon get a dye UL back bored.

Mongo on here, twinky on PhOG and another guy on AO do it.

My buddy Tobin (LongBall) did one for his SL-68 so he might be another good one to ask.

I would bore it in a rubber collet lathe till it is to a nominal size then hit a honing table. Just Boring would probably be fine but a boring operation leaves small marks almost like minuscule threads. Also do you have to chamfer the inside of the barrel? I do not own a Freak Kit so I am curious now.

I also am interested in the depth and ID to be bored.

I see we have a couple other machinists in here. I started thinking about what process I would use for doing this and if my little lathe would be able to be modified to do this. I would definitly use a boring bar and honing or burnishing would definitly be nice but probably not nessesary as the balls would be going through the insert and not the bored out part of the barrel. I am going to have to steal a friends freak kit and get some dimensions off of it. I am also curious. By the way where do you work/live Mstrtal? I see you live in Iowa. I work in the metal cutting industry in Iowa and live in Cedar Rapids so we may have crossed paths.

When I do this I use a drill and reamer set-up. Just measure a insert and that will give you both your depth and the size you need to open the barrel up to.
