DIY Splatmaster mods

Hello MCB! I'm not sure if this is the right section, but it seems fitting.

Does anyone have any do it yourself mods for the old (aka, REAL) Splatmaster? I've looked around and found some people have made rails, modded barrels, and even fitted Nelson valves. Anyone got any how-to's for the homebrewer?

Thanks!

All of those mods are a little more than home brew. You would need a mill and lathe.

Damn. I've got a drillpress, band saw, bench grinder, and a Dremmel. Otherwise, a hack saw, some files, and i can solder and braise. I don't mind taking forever with hand tools. Just curious what some other people have done.

This should help give you some ideas:

Mods/ How-to's

Kidney's kits were good, but he doesn't offer them any more. You could try and re-do what he did:
Splatmaster kits...

One of the guys here in London had one. You could PM him for his opinion on it.

Hey thanks. That's a cool site. And that sucks that kidney quit making those kits! They look awesome!

I think I'm going to try making a velocity adjuster and moding a barrel to fit. Anyone have any ideas for valve mods?

Have an old Spyder velocity adjuster? Just slip it into some copper tubing and drill a hole. (I used some plastic as a spacer. I still need to trim it.) Spyder springs sit on that notch on the valve perfectly. Just need to trim it a bit.

Nicely done. Any results with it yet?

Not yet i need to sand the copper just a little bit. It's a touch snug. I probably won't be able to test it until Thursday or this weekend.

My next idea is to turn down a minimag barrel until it fits, then drill the holes to mount it to the rail. I'll probably use Spyder detents, as i lost the stock one years ago. I also want to add a bolt tip oring. That shouldn't be to hard.

I will also be adding a copper tube (or, so far that's the plan) to the top tube to hold the paint. I always hated cramming 10rnd tubes into it. I'm thinking scope cover or similar as a doorway.

And i would really like to fit a powertube to the valve. I just know that would aid in tunability and efficiency. I'll share what i come up with.

I won't be modifying the rail much. Just drilling for screw slots to hold the minimag barrel. I heard round barrels like to "jump" off of the rail. This will eradicate that.

Works well. Velocity is still low, and the spring binds when cranked in, but those should be simple fixes. Sanded the copper down probably 1mm, then polished her up. Slides smoothly, and with the plastic shim trimmed, it's comfortable to use. So far, this was a good idea.

I'll be starting the Minimag barrel mod this week. I'll post up progress.

Still trying to figure out how i can use a Nelson powertube and valve spring. It looks like i can just open the air passage of the bolt a bit and press fit it, but nothing will fit with the stock valve. Kind if a bummer.
