soldering brass pgp

Okay, I want to remove the top tube of my pgp2k. I plan to cut it down and reattach part of it with a phantom feed tube on the end so I can basically stab 10 round tubes into it (part of a bigger project).

1. What is the best way to remove the top tube without damaging the barrel?
2. What is the best form of reattachment?

I have a soldering iron that I have used on other small projects, will it work on this? What do I need to do this type of metal work?

My pgp2k is stock right now, but I want it to look like this type of feed system.

Lol, that's not going to cut it man....

Look up Youtube videos on plumbing soldering, that's much more akin to Sheridan construction than electrical soldering is. You need at least a propane torch, although I'd imagine an oxy-acetylene might be better.

Soldering irons will not put out enough energy to heat the brass enough before the heat escapes. I have no problem using a simple propane torch. It's very similar to soldering copper pipe and using copper pipe is a great way to practice.

PistolRogue, I didn't figure it would be hot enough with a soldering iron. I have soldered with copper before. I used to do some mild comercial plumbing so I do know how to do that kind of work. It just didn't click in my head.

Will the torch be good for taking off the top tube? I do not wan to effect the integrity of the barrel.

you have to keep the torch moving. don't keep it one spot. clamp the bottom tubes and put a dial in the top tube so that as soon as the solder starts to heat up you can pull on the dial and it'll pop right off.

If you want it to look like that picture....send it to WALZ
