What's the dealio with the gen4 Timmies?

So, I have a super leaky Empire II Intimidator. One of my semi local pro shops suggested not bothering with it, and suggested that it would begin to leak again soon anyway. I've read all bad and no good about gen4 timmies. It was also told to me that they halted production of them midyear because of so many issues.

What is the real scoop?

The balanced valve on them is a little more finicky then other timmies. I know even some of the BLAST techs don't like working on them. If you already have it, I'd try and fix it, they're not worth a lot on resale.

I think Lurker made a valve for it that I believe is a little more reliable, but not entirely sure.

Got pics of it??

Yeah, at times they can behave just like cockers and be fickle

Usual issue was with the valve, and a simple fix was to purge it

check up on O rings and a good lubeing
is important too

getting it tuned correctly helps as well

Note*
to purge the valve you simply need to push the bolt forward so the valve becomes unstuck and vents the air that's traped

It was a flawed valve design. The valves from lurker fix it by actually making it work as it should have.

I can dig up an old photo of it, for sure. If you recall Kermit's thread from last fall, about his stolen Timmy, it is that one.

I personally loved them... one of the largest issues I had with mine was with excessive use the rocket cap on the valve would break off.

I sold mine a while back and regret it. It was an awesome little gun.

Unless the person has owned one, used one & worked on it for a good length of time, dont listen to their BS. Gen4 Timmies are good markers, just not as forgiving as Gen1-3 but just as good. Back when I had a Gen4, a complete rebuild (all orings & greased) & 15 minutes over the chrono, I had it on par with my other Timmies (Gen1-3). Complete rebuild & make sure it has the updated valve pin from Blast.

They got a nasty rep with the first valve, but the update fixed it. Lurker's makes it even better.

Gen 4 Timmys seem to be hit or miss.

A friend of mine had an 06 Empire that never seemed to work quite right. It would either leak from a bunch of different spots or chop like a beast.

On the other hand I've had numerous Gen 4 Timmys (infamous, Empire, and a Ripper 3) and they've generally all worked exceptionally well for me. Good efficiency, great ROF, smooth, not very loud, and very reliable. They're my go to electros since I sold my G6r.
