Anodizing a factory Phantom?

I was offered this orange Phantom for my Pug.

FS/FT: PPS Pug - I want black VSC Phantoms!

I was wondering if anodizing it to black would degrade the laser engraving?

usually. Phantoms are not the easiest thing to reanno due to the helicoil inserts. Best to keep it that color or wait for a black one IMHO

What happens to the inserts, does it just eat it away?

A stainless insert would basically destroy the ano or whatever.

You simply have to remove them. I it isnt is all that hard.

It doesnt matter though, good anodizing will make that a terrible deal for you. That phantom minus the cost of black anno = rip off.

Get one you like, not one you have to mess with in order to like it.

Great, thanks for the fast replies.

I'm probably going to save and grab a new Phantom.

I have always just masked those inserts with no problems. Much easier than removing them.

Those inserts are easy to remove. Find a screwdriver/phillips that just fits snug in the insert. heat it pretty good to loosen the red loctite. Then back it out with the screwdriver/ phillips. And 99% of the time they come out un harmed. The only time i had them destoried coming out was when i didn't use enough heat.
