Mine did not slip at all, but it might be a matter of physiology.
My pads currently sit snugly above the calf. (Who knows where they will be after a couple of outings; I'll keep you posted.)
So basically the bulge of my calf muscle itself along with actually fitting correctly was enough to keep it from slipping.
There's an anti-slip ring at the top that is supposed to also help, but I don't think that ever even came into play for me.

the one plus is that they have a large variety of sizes, so you can choose ones that more closely fit your knee

i vote tactical kneepads. cheap and durable. the X style never fall off on me either.
