I had this happen when the neck-oring between the tank and reg went bad. Rebuilt the reg thinking it was that because it held at ~800, but it vented (or leaked very profusely) from between the reg and bottle as soon as the fill got over ~800. (The reg was still well seated) When I pulled it apart the o-ring was cracked; I guess it had just enough play to hold what was left in the tank.

That happened to me too. Except it happened in the middle of a game and I had no idea why I had crazy shootdown all of a sudden. Usually, if that was the problem, the tank will flip around and can damage itself (seen it happen), but I guess if it was on the gun, then it likely wouldn't. On mine, the o-ring was starting to poke out from in between the reg body and bottle.
