As far as I can remember, the z-body has a rubber nub that extends into the body from the top, but is adjustable for length by a thumb screw. As the ball passes the nub, it briefly holds the top of the ball, imparting backspin. These work best with a large bore barrel which will allow the ball to continue to spin.

I think the apex is designed much better than the Galactic Z body. By placing the rubber nubbin at the start of the barrel, I believe problems are created. It's much smarter to put the backspin inducer on the end, once the ball is about to leave the barrel, as you can still have most of the benefits of a good paint to barrel match.

I would agree the apex is better suited for this but there is another benifit to the z body that the apex may not have. (I don't condone this action but something to think about) Many refs/tournies are talking about or banning the apex due to being able to change the velocity on the field. The z body is able to do that as well but how many refs will have any clue. Most of the refs I know don't even know how you should chrony an E or RT valved mag so this would be way beyond them. Once again I don't support doing such things but it is a point that should be considered when the z body is brought up.

I find that interesting. I own a z-body and had an Apex for a short while. I was excited to see the Apex, because I thought I would be able to get rid of the heavier z-body and instead get a ULE body, while keeping the nice long accurate shots by using the Apex. Boy was I disappointed. The Apex was nothing in terms of accuracy compared to by z-body, and it was not long before the Apex was traded off to somebody else. I found the z-body system of putting the backspin at the back of the barrel to be much better in terms of consistency of where the shots were placed.

Anyways, just to show that i'm not totally changing the subject, somewhere on my computer I have a scan of the Patent papers that Galaticz filed for the z-body, and if it shows the "rubber" spin assembly well I'll pass it along to you.
