Chronograph Question

I have a X-radar Chronograph which uses the Doppler effect like the PMI one.

I was wondering is there a certain distance the paintball has to travel before the chrono can get an accurate reading?

I have the little yellow hand chrono, and I know I can't get it to read inside. So it needs at least 20-30 ft of open space. Hope this helps...

Usually 5-6', back ground makes a big difference anything that moves in that zone will through off the reading.

I have used a hand held chrono and it worked just fine within ~5 feet.

^^That's strange because I've tried mine several times indoors and its never worked. Also, if I shoot out my back door directly at the bushes that are about 15ft away, I also can't get a reading. I have to have about 20 ft of clear space in my experience to get a reading with my little yellow handheld radarchron.
