Vector owners. I've got a ?

I got my Vector all re-ringed and shooting. But as part of the strip n' lube session I found that the valve spring was a cut off bit of "stuff" so I replaced it with a fairly similar feeling autococker valve spring.

She shoots OK but I have yet to chrono any paint out of it. However I noticed that the air comes out in sort of a POP-WOOSH where it's more than just a POP on my hand. There's a definite duration to the air coming out of the barrel. Not long of course but it's more than the slap I get from any other marker.

Is that fairly normal or is it something that can be adjusted? There wasn't anything in the video on maintanence and trouble shooting.

Given that this thing is sort of an autococking Nelson I'm puzzled at why the valve would stay open for so long.

I'm running on around 400 PSI at the moment with the thruster mod to the gun.

Yeah, I put that spring in there. When I first got it, it had the velocity adjuster so I took all that out and cut down a Nelson spring that was a bit longer than the one before it.

Hope she's nicer to you than she was to me, lol!

Make sure there isnt any gunk in there, and it sounds like you might have too weak of a valve spring. If you have a velocity adjuster, crank it in some.

Yeah the mainspring can overpower the valve spring causing it to vent between shots when the carrier tries to re-engage the hammer.

I agree it sounds like the valve spring is too soft if you're getting that much of a whoosh. Mine definitely has a sharp crack to it and a sudden quick burst of air.

You need to raise your input pressure about 200 psi... Sounds like your having an issue with the recharge rate. The woosh is most likely air rushing into the valve.

Nelsons generally have a hard time staying sealed at low pressures as the hammer comes back to recock against the powertube. I'm sure a combination of low pressure and a weak valve spring are allowing it to pop open.

Ah, never thought about the pressure on the hammer. It's not an issue on a pump since the valve has lots of time to reseat. But in the Vector the bolt and hammer "picker upper" is shuttling back in time with the shot.

I'll try a harder or longer valve spring.

The cup seal was leaking a little too. Had a nick on the seat. For giggles I made a new screw on one from plastic much like a Spyder cup seal is made rather than use the spare. It's OK now but leaks a hair about 1 in 6 until you fire it again. I'm thinking that it may well need a 4 prong guide like a lot of STBB's use to ensure the cup seal stays centered.

What do the velocity adjuster parts look like?

Should be a plate, round and small enough to fit within the valve body, with 2 holes in it. Also should be a grub screw that screws into one of the ASA holes. Pretty sure I sent that along for ya.

I'll check the bag o' parts. I'm sure they are in there. Just wasn't at all sure what I was looking at.

THanks

BTW, I love the thing. For some reason set up with a remote line and a gas thru T stock it just feels positively "right". I'm hoping to use it with the Qloader that I've got and that has been looking for a home.

This is about as "mil sim" as I'll likely get.

Oh, and next up is a loudener....
