Try a new battery - I think that's your problem.

it got to the battery.

the "it shoots for X shots then dies" is a dead give away.

when you turn the gun off or take out the battery it is recovering some voltage slightly. enough to power itself for a bit, then it runs out.

How could the battery be the problem when it is charged to 10.32v? The connectors aren't making enough contact? Something about the battery's design is not effective? This battery is a powerex that is advertised as being for paintball.

Here's what Colin Moritz of Deadlywind has to say:

Quote:
9 times out of 10 this issue is due to the "sail" O-ring on the outside of the bolt (the one in its own groove) not sealing 100% to the inside of the Ion breach. At rest it will not leak, but when you fire, it is allowing too much air to escape past it, so the bolt does not move.
Another possibility is the regulator. I am using a custom products short reg that has a low pressure (0-300psi) spring pack. They say in the manual for their reg that the low pressure spring pack should be used with a low-pressure (400-500psi) tank. I'm using a high-output Pure Energy tank (somewhere around 800-900psi). Could it be that the reg is malfunctioning because and is somehow starving the marker for air? It seems like the problem would be that the pressure would spike too high and blow out the hoses, but maybe when the pressure spikes, the chamber in front of the bolt does not drop to a low enough pressure to allow the bolt to move forward. This seems unlikely considering the way that the Ion functions.

Before I ran out of air, I had the marker working. I tried a Bob Long Torpedo reg set to 150 psi, and then switched back to the CP reg set to 120 psi. The marker was cycling normally and shot perfect. I noticed that on the CP reg, the pressure gradually dropped to around 100psi after a few shots and I had to readjust the pressure back up to 120psi. Then the marker appeared to work normally before I ran out of air.

Have you tried another board? Could be a solenoid issue. Also, check the capaciator on the board. Too long grip screws can damage the cap and cause these sort of issues.

If the pressure spikes to high the gun will not operate. I tech in a friends shop(when home) and you would not believe how many kids bring in their broken Ion. I fix the majority of the "broken" ions by turning the inline reg down. They do the "chuffing" on power up, since you can shoot some before this happens I think you may be getting reg creeping -ie pressure spike. The inline is where I would start if I worked on your gun.

if you are saying that the reg pressure is going DOWN after a few shots and you see it slowly recharging, that means the reg needs to be rebuilt. either try a new reg, or tear down the cp and rebuild it/clean it)

chances are its a mix of things, probably an o-ring, battery/capacitor issue, or grease issue.

if worse comes to worse, you can always send it to our shop, and we will tech it for you (cover shipping and parts)

SplatterEffectPaintball is the store.

If the pressure spiked, wouldn't it blow out the gauge? I am using a 160psi gauge because my marker operates normally (or used to, anyway) at around 120psi.Or, is it spiking momentarily when the marker fires. I can see the guage go down and then go right back to where it was. It does not appear to be slowly recharging or gradually increasing in pressure.

Colin at deadlywind thinks that the bolt-sail o-ring is the problem. Does that make sense to you?

Sorry missed the part where you said gauge moved, Yes I can see an oring cause this, it could be an o-ring just slightly out of spec due to fluid absorption, manufacturing tol, etc.

replace that o-ring and see if it fixes the issue.

if you dont have that o-ring, let me know the size, chances are i have it.
