I end up having to refuse almost a bottle a week because some kid has put stickers all over it, not only obscuring possible damage but also covering up the important numbers like the hydro date and TC number.

You can also simply have a 2 inch tank hydrotested anyways..so you feel safe and can show that to the person filling it. Makes it easier.

I've also had a guy refuse to fill my tank because the *original* date was 1992, even though the latest of the hydro's was only a year gone by. He wasn't exactly the brightest bulb on the tree though.

Oh yeah. I must have missed that!

Screw hydrotesting... fill your own.

Really out of date tanks just toss and replace(except for those sweet oldschool 7 and 9 ozers) because new tanks are so cheap now days.

Without seeing the build number on the bottle he very well could be right in not filling it. Some early fibre wrapped bottles had a 8 yr or 10 yr lifespan regardless of what the hydrotest date is

I actually almost got into a verbal confrontation because the local airfill guy [i[insisted[/i] on seeing my hydrostamp on a new tank. I politely informed him that it wasn't necessary and started to tell him about the 2x2 rule and got an earful from him about his expertise and responsibility (didn't disagree on that point) and what-not.

I am printing out the rule for my return this weekend.

Your new tank should still have a hydrostamp on it. If it didn't, or you refused to let me inspect the tank I wouldn't fill it for you either. I am aware of the 2x2 rule, but here (in Canada) we have a TC-stamp rule as well, and the 2x2 tanks are not exempt from that (which is sad because I have a pile of the old 7oz and 10oz aluminum hydro exempt tanks with no TC #'s). Thusly, all tanks have to be inspected by the filler and checked for the correct numbers.

I am with you all the way on this. I am not in Canada so the TC stamp doesn't apply. My post was more for the way he handled it. Sorry if I didn't get that across.
