Attaching Aluminum to Brass

With the price of Brass through the roof in most cases, is there any good methods to attach aluminum to brass? Will soldering work, or is it to much of a risk due to aluminums melting point? Any ideas?

Cheers'

Duct tape or JB weld.

You shouldn't have a problem with it melting, solder melts at less than 400º Fahrenheit.. Aluminum melts at 1200º Faranheit.

Soldering aluminum can be difficult, you really gotta scrub off the aluminum oxide, which forms somewhat quickly

Use flux, and try to avoid 5 and 6 series aluminums

What sort of flux? And what aluminums have less oxide-forming characteristics?

There are some aluminium "brazing" or "soldering" materials and some of them may even be compatible with brass. Otherwise it won't work. Traditional solders used for copper based alloys such as brass and for steel don't stick to aluminium at all. But some of the more exotic soldering metal mixtures may just be compatible for both metals.

I'd check with some of the welding supply outlets in your area and ask them. I've not seen any references to such a material.

Really not much difference there. Magnesium rich alloys are hard to solder to for other reasons. Aluminum itself reacts quickly to air, and so any alloy with less aluminum, I guess? really though, not much difference.

Scrub hard, scrub quick, paste some flux on to keep the oxygen out and Al fresh, and solder away
