They X-rayed the bags and didnt do much else. I had the paperwork with the air tank guidelines all printed out with me but they didnt even bother inspecting my luggage more then a cursory x-ray so I didnt have any issues with them. Our guns were also in the luggage with the tanks and passed thru fine. One of our players took his tank with him in his carry-on and I believe that they inspected that more closely but still, is was mostly a prefunctionary inspection. DA |

Perhaps they feel they can get away with less or know better where they stand while they may actually be ignorant. With my bad experience I could have been spared if I could have backed up my claim with documentation. Something that I never needed before. Well we can all learn from my experience. Coincidentally, I posted this yesterday on the Tinker's Guild: What you can do is print out a copy of the TSA rules regarding paintball gear; TSA: Paintball Equipment and place the copy directly one the gun in your luggage. I have been traveling over a decade with guns in my check in luggage and never had a problem -until recently. Either they don't know all of the rules or they play stupid or they play you for a fool. With the paper work, they can't argue. I'm going to publish an article describing my experience with the TSA. No I'm not an attorney but there is a local law firm called Weltman, Weinburg and Reis. |

| MCB Member | Weltman, thanks. Vera and Miranda are flying with me to Sacramento tomorrow. Thing is that I'm flying them in my big gear bag, as it's hardsided, large, and will protect them and my gear better. But now I'm wondering if I should do that. Thing is that for the gear I'm taking, that gear bag is the best thing to use. I'm flying out of Phoenix Sky Harbor, so I shouldn't have any trouble (TSA has actually proven to be decent people there), but I'm still worried about gearbag theft. I do have a smaller sports bag that I use for playing paintball in the area, but it's not big enough to fit all my gear safely into. Is there any way to purchase on-the-fly insurance for checked luggage? And for a high amount as well.....say $3000 (that's what I'd place the total value of the gear that I'm flying with at: Two pps guns, 2 pps barrels, HH kit, reloader B, apache, scp pants, dye jersey, gloves, profiler, pod pack, 10rnd harness, springfeed, all my pball maintenance tools, etc.)?

You can at least take pictures of your packed cases showing the contents should something underhanded arise. |

I know that some homeowners policies will cover items that you personally own, if you pay a small additional fee, or if you atleast give them a headsup before you travel or before you need to file a claim. If it is a larger amount like the one you posted, they might need to have a rider applied to your policy to cover the added expense. I know that some jewelry is covered under the homeowners policy even if it is lost or damaged outside of the actual property that is insured. Bottom line, call your homeowners insurance agent and ask. Wont cost you anythnig to find out. DA |
