Feild worth Registering?

Yeah, I live in a small town that used to have a feild and proshop.. but the owners left to continue their education... Now, all the paintball addicted fishies are without water and desperately need a place to play..

I live on a decent amount of land, big enough to quench any woodsballers desire, and have an open space that I have converted into a 3-5man speedball feild made from wood and barrels.. and anyway, I just recently persuaded a tackle shop to start supplying paint and I have a co2 fill station so I've been having some very outlaw games with my close friends (mostly those who won't press charges for discovering one of the nails I missed while cleaning up)

and anyway, I was thinking of registering it so that I could buy paint direct, and actually turn a small profit.. right now I basically break even which is nice, I mean... I don't have to buy paint or anything so I'm pretty much playing for free

but yeah, any feild owners have a helpful hint or two?

If you go and buy paint direct you screw over the tackle shop that you just persuaded to order paint for you.

It's probably a favor rather than a profitable venture for the tackle shop in the first place.

I am friends with a guy who started a small field with his brother. He said that he began by trying to put on structured games. Pick one day a month, and host a game for the locals. See how many will make it out on a constant basis. That just gave him an idea on whether or not it would be worth it. Way down the road you can worry about renting out to church groups and insurance. I don't personally know anything about starting a business, but I do know that my friend NEVER gets to play.

I know... and I like the dude too, he's a cool guy and I definately don't want to screw him over.. but he will be profiting quite a bit I think

Oh, and just another question whats the usual amount a person is making per case of paint sold at around 45$.. usually its wgp domination or something similar in quality.. If it really is just a favor and he's not really profiting from it, then I wouldn't feel terrible if I started buying direct..

I've put together a list of all the people I know.. (in my age group) that can and would play and it comes out to about 35-40 people... Which is quite a few.. even if only 10 or so show up at a time it'd be wort while, plus theres still probably 10 times as many people in corvallis and the surrounding area's...

Does farm insurance cover a paintball related injury? or do I really need a specific paintball insurance policy? I have a waiver written up... but I've heard its not usually enough...

Waivers dont mean a thing. You need specific paintball insurance which is expensive. You really need to expect to dump THOUSANDS of dollars into a field to get it to a working state that can support people just showing up that aren't your friends who want to play outlaw.

ugh.. thats what I thought..

so why do fields require you to fill out a waiver if it does nothing?

I'm guessing it's to lessen the chance that you actually try to sue them and for peace of mind. I could be way off though.

I don't usually say this but go Here and read the stickies. There is a ton of useful information for the aspiring field owner. My .02 is get insurance it only takes one idiot to ruin everything you've worked for. Talk to the bait shop guy about you plans, you may be able to work something out with him. I run a small field and a few times I've run short of paint, one of my competitors about 40 min away sells me paint at wholesale, we both make money and I send people to him to buy markers.
Good luck
