also, there were a bunch of semi auto conversions for them that didn't work that well. most used cocke r parts, but the reblines used a spring or rubberband return.

Of course, that animation simplifies the trigger mechanism. On auto mode, a rigid trigger component is used to trip the sear. In semi-auto, that part is slid forward and a second trigger component trips the sear, then allows itself to be pushed forward as the sear returns much like in a blowback semi.

Sovereign? Or how ever its spelled. The semi from arrow precision the company that makes the sterling isn't that nelson based as well?

Sovereign was loosely similar to a cocker. The Sterling has a nelson type hammer setup with a sheridan type valve,

I would say that sterling semis are sterling semi's and nelson semi's are nelson semis.

Vectors and rainmakers are sterling, so are sov's.

AT is the main nelson semi auto and is the only one i know of that does not use some kind of external cocking mechanism, like pneumatics.

The early Sov prototypes were sterling-based, as were some of the Sterling kits in the early 90s.

But the modern Soveriegn is Sheridan based. It is basically a Cocker with the ram and bolt combined.

You do not see many Nelson semiautos just because of the design makes it inherently difficult. Blowbacks would not work, as the layout has the bolt moving in the wrong direction.

However, a blowback nelson WOULD be possible with an articulated barrel, instead of using a bolt. This way, the breach could be "open" when ready to fire. Think: Semiauto Splatmaster!

Autococking kits do work, but they usually sufferent from hammer-slap, where the force of the ram against the hammer, causing the valve to open twice for every shot. This is corrected by adjusting springs, and hammer weights, but then that detunes the gun to work ineffeciently.
