That may not be the case with pistols, and or shorter barrels. Ported, or unported. Infact, a short dwell actuating exaust valve opening, and a reduced dump chamber are the main necessaties for maintaing good efficiencies.
Just let the main do all the work.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

Fast question: Why does velocity go down with a lighter valve spring?

Should go up if you lighten the valve spring. Means it closes slower and should open more when the hammer strikes the valve.

Thats what I thought. I changed the spring from a heavy (300FPS), to a mid (260FPS).

Now I'm gonna have to go out and test my hammer rifle. I'll be back in with results. (dialed it in last saturday at PnL, but it was leaking. Switched cupseal, doesn't leak.)

I'll see how many shots I can get.

36 full power shots followed by three that dump the valve a bit, shooting through a 13" all american barrel on a lapco barrel adapter (Cocker to spyder)

I'll do a more detailed study on the 28'th, with a lapco bigshot, a powerlyte barrel, a PMI perfect ceramic, and the brass lined stock barrel.

Damn! Had you been using anything unlike the SP AA, you could've added at least 10 more, lol.
