KP owners chime in

So i was just shooting my kp in the backyard (i finally found paint that fits my barrel perfectly! but anyways...) has anyone else noticed that if you hold the pump forward the gun sounds louder than if i just hold the stock and let the bolt move a little bit? will shooting without holding the pump forward affect the guns accuracy or efficiency? And has anyone else noticed this? oh and my kp has had a trip to palmers for the neccasary stuff if that applies to how loud the gun is.

or option number three im crazy as a loon and should just go back to shooting stuff.

Yes, it's true of most Sheridans. I honestly haven't noticed a significant difference in velocity or trajectory between holding and letting go.

holding the pump forward insures all of the pressure released goes out the end of the barrel. So it in theory should be louder and slightly more efficient with the pump forward.

When I was up at castle hangin' out with everyone Glenn Palmer stated that if the kp is shooting around 280fps while you hold the handle, it will shoot around 300fps when you hold the stock. He told me to try it over the crono, and suprisingly he was somewhat right...When I backed the bolt out abit without breaking the seal I got a little bit of a velocity increase, but nothing to major.

Weird. I know there's definitely something going on with backpressure in the valve. I'm just not sure how exactly it affects the shot.

that is strange. i wish i had a chrono to test that but i don't understand how air escaping backwards could increase velocity

I've found this weird, too. My old Sniper would be much more quiet/consistant if I let the handle go on its own, but would get lower velocity. So I'd chrono it without holding the pump (NO I wouldn't cheat the chrono). But my brass guns chrono higher if I let the pump go, plus as stated are quieter.

Well I remember Glenn saying that by letting the bolt go there is more space between the ball for the co2 to expand causing the greater velocity.
