need advice, making STBB from the ground up,

I'm trying to funk together a STBB and I'm thinking of using these extrusions from ASP:

so my question is:
can this extrusion be adapted for use as a blow back or would i be better off
starting from a solid block of Aluminum?

IIRC, the tubes are the same ID as a Spyder, but the distance between may be different.

STBB's can be made from any, well, stacked tubes. Weld together a couple iron pipes with a smooth bore, and you've got yourself a VM. I'll be building a brass blowback in the future.

Been toying with the idea of a 'tactical' clip-fed STBB from that extrusion, myself, but I have other projects to finish. Really, slap a Spyder valve in there (literally--Merlins used Spyder valves sans the blowback slot), cut the appropriate holes and slots, and you'll have yourself as nice a blowback as the craftsman can make.

EDIT: I wonder how much of that stuff Haveblue actually has on hand. I may need to buy a long piece before it goes.

Only trouble you should have is getting a longer pin to connect the bolt and hammer, and standard Spyder back caps (if you're using one of the double-caps) may not fit; depending on how thick the material between the tubes is. That shouldn't be much trouble at all, if you're planning on milling down a body extrusion, cutting slots, threading, etc.

That looks like a fun project. How much did you have to give for the extrusion? I'd love to get my hands on a couple for funzies...need mill and lathe practice.

Stainless, you'd better read the pricing a bit more closely. An 8.5 inch length is $25. The $11 is the cutting charge plus there's a per inch cost from there.

Personally I think the distance between the bores is too much for a STBB. The distance will mean there's a lot more prying force on the connecting pin.

Instead I think I'd look at some brass tubing, drill and slot as required and then solder it together. And if the upper tube is long enough to include the barrel as per Sheridan practice you'll have a very unique setup. And for the Coup de Grace a 45 degree angled DOWN feedneck that couples to a Q loader would really be the icing on the cake.... Or am I getting too radical again....
