| Village Idiot | Spontanious tank leak I have a CF 88/4500 Pure Energy tank with Pure Energy reg on it. I have never had a problem with it until today when I brought it in to get it filled (it had about 700 psi at this point) and was holding air fine when it was done filling it had a leak coming out of the fill nipple. Any idea what might cause this?

| That just happened to one of my tanks. When it was mine it was the o-ring on the pistion inside the fill nipple causing the leak.

| fill nipples leak. sorry. Eventually the o-ring gets torn from filling it. Its worse if the fill station shoves the air in really fast. I always creap the air in when I fill tanks and we get very few leaky nipples, but ifyou use a "push button" setup they tend to distort the o-ring as its filling, then when you stop, the pin pinches the o-ring. Just replace the fill nipple. |

| Village Idiot | Is replacing a fill nipple something that a novice can do (I'd done burst disks and valves on CO2 tanks) or is it an airsmith thing? If it's something an airsmith needs to do is there someone here that I can send it to there is NO ONE in the state that does airsmith work

| its not hard, any store should be able do it. remove with a socket. replace the whole unit prob $10. teflon tape the unit. there needs to be a small amount of space under the pin, so dont over tighten it. |

| yeah, it's a very simple repair. If I remember right the threads have a slight taper on those guys - so you'll know when it's tight enough - don't torque down on it too much, but obviously you need to make sure it's seated firmly enough. Take a look at the one you're taking off to see about how far to wrench the new one in. |

| Hawaiian-shirted hooligan | I had the same problem with 2 PE tanks last year. I had the fill nipple replaced one one, but it still leaked. When I contacted PE about it, they said that their regs do NOT like to be slam-filled at all as it damages the reg. Ended up having to send in the tanks for replacement regs.
