Crossfire regulator breaks off in tank

Just took my tanks in a couple of days ago to get hydrotested. One was a crossfire tank with a cross fire regulator . When I went to pick them up today I was told the regulator snapped off when he tried to remove it from the tank. I have seen this happen before especially with cross fire tanks and regs. Should I just call crossfire about having it replaced ? Would they even help me out with this ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From Crossfire's faq:

Quote:
21. My reg snapped off when I was trying to remove it. What do I do?

Unfortunately, if you snapp off your regular inside your cylinder
there is not much we can do for you. This is why we suggest that
you send in your system to us if you need the regulator removed.
We have the proper tools along with the skills and experience needed
to successfully remove the regulator from the cylinder. If you do break
your regulator from the cylinder, do not attempt to remove what is left
inside the cylinder. Box up your cylinder and send it into us. We will
attemp to remove the remaining part of the regulator. We have very limited success
in doing this, but we can try.
I would think that if they can get the piece out, at least the tank would be salvageable. That way you would only need a new reg put on, which runs about 50-65 bucks. It is definitely worth contacting Crossfire.

Further along those lines I am fairly sure that if you do not send the tank to them or take it to there tent at an event to remove the reg the warenty includs language hat makes it void. (probabally not an issue since the tank was due for testing but I thought I would mention it)

Thanks for the help guys . I will give them a call on monday and send it to them . It sucks buying a tank and have it only be useable for five years. I have heard and seen this happen to a few tanks but they always seem to be crossfire tanks. I think these guys loctite the regulators to the tanks.

I don't know what they do but whatever it is they have put some effort to make them not user servicable. Which is why I wont buy a crossfire tank.

If a tank is sent into crossfire for hydro and they break the reg, who foots the bill?

I'm pretty sure that Crossfire regulators are loctited in, when I had my tank hydrotested I found blue all along the threads. I actually had a big incident with my local dive shop after they tested and filled it I had the regulator begin to separate from the tank at 3k PSI. It ruined the seal b/w the reg and tank and scared the hell out of me. My local shop wrote it off as nothing and told me that it was illegal to loctite regulators to tanks?

Little off topic but I though you might find it interesting.
