Sniper Trouble - no airflow?

I am new to Cockers and Snipers (and the various and sundry clones). I just finished building a Sniper using a Lightning body and some spare parts from various sources (Bacci).

Everything fits. No leaks that I can hear. BUT... Not much air pushing the ball. 12g reads 800psi on the gage.

The springs and valve all came with the body (new from I&I -- but incomplete due to a freakish accident that apparently destroyed the barrel and front block).

I figured the balls were old and swollen, so I removed the barrel and tried it again. The ball just kinda dribbled out of the breech. After a while I got nothing at all.

Before I tear this thing up, what do you'se guys think it is?

Valve or bolt is upside down if you have little to no air propelling the ball, but 800 psi thru the vert ASA.

Sounds like it's spring'ed for low pressure, but your trying to run it on high pressure, the extra pressure is keeping the valve closed because the light hammer spring doesn't have enough force to overcome it. Try using a lighter valve spring and/or and a heaver hammer spring (but keep in mind a heavier hammer spring will cause a heavier pump stroke).

What happens when you crank the IVG in (adjuster in the back)?

yup, internals are set for low pressure - you're feeding it high. the pressure is holding the valve closed.

You can re-spring or run a regulator.

If you're serious about running 12's or some other direct CO2 or direct HPA then I'd suggest swapping the LP sized valve for an old style smaller diameter opening valve from back in the day when they used direct CO2. Then you can spring it as per how they used to do it. That was a hard valve spring and a medium hammer spring.

THe idea of the smaller valve and harder valve spring is to put more of the control over how much gas is passed in the control of the springs and less on the pressure trying to re-seat the cupseal. This hard spring/small diameter valve will provide you with a lot more velocity consistency as the pressure alters with changes in the temperature from the day warming or the tank cooling from use. This is why things like Nelsons and other direct CO2 guns all use very small cupseals and valve openings.

If you try to respring an LP intended valve for direct CO2 you'll find that the velocity is all over the place through the day. If you use it with HPA then the consistency of the reg on the tank will help a lot and it may be possible to spring it for consistency and velocity. But with CO2 and the way it alters the pressure with temperature changes it'll be like a dog chasing its tail.

OK,
First thanks to all of you'se guys.

I put a cheap In-line reg I had lying around on the gun and now it works. In fact when I test shot it, it blew out a paintball that had been stuck in the barrel.

Now I just need a bottom line adapter....

Hey cool!
There's this cool sweet spot. Pressure too low, slow ball. Pressure too high, slow ball. Oddly it works best at 300 psi. Although the reg I put on is fer futz.

yup, sweetspotting your reg will give you a better shot to shot consistency as well as better efficiency.
