Anyone use airsoft to train for paintball?

Anyone ever use airsoft to train for paintball?

One problem I am having is inmproving my paintball skills. I only play once every week or 2nd week. The fields are about 35-40 mins away. I also work nights ...........when I could probably practice snap shooting and other skills on a field.

I do have access to a 30 x 40' gym. I also have an aeg mp5 which is similar to my a5. I have just begun setting up boxes and baracades to simulate bunkers.

This is a non-messy, economic, quasi solution. I used to shoot a lot of airsoft and was quite fast at picking up targets. So I am hoping to gain skill and replicate the various field conditions.

I am also considering using re-balls. I am hoping to practice 2-3 short sessions weekly..........much like practicing martial arts.

Never used airsoft for paintball, but I have used Paintball for "real life" situations.

Airsoft guns are weighted way differently than paintball guns IMO. Plus they don't have tanks, the stock is right out the back on most of them, no hoppers, and you wouldn't have any bunkers to push in/snap at... I don't think it would work very well.

My son and I play all the time with those cheapo spring pistols. I can see how it could help your paintball skills. Really I think it is just a fun thing to do if we need to kill a half hour, or it is raining and don't feel like playing.

Two years back I bought him some battery powered auto guns for Christmas. It really changed how we would screw around, and it turned out to be less fun. Funny, but that is kind of how I feel about paintball guns as well.

I can't really see how, aside from practicing maneuvering/strategy, that airsoft would offer you much worthwhile paintball training.

The difference in weight, range and engagement distance are just totally different to assist your paintball accuracy or shooting skills.

On the other hand, if you take your current paintball skill set and begin playing with folks who are pure airsofters, you will come away feeling nowhere near as bad about your skills. Paintballers are to airsofters as a hawks are to pigeons.

You will be like a ninja surrounded by new recruits.

You could always try taping a hopper and wearing weights on that arm to simulate the difference.

I can fully attest to that! I once got a group of Airsofters playing centerflag speedball with their airsoft guns. They're never looking back.

Get a barrage barrel for your A5. Lets you use BBs rather than paint. No annoying reballs to keep track of. You can use much less air to get the BB to 300 FPS.
