Nel-Spot 007 - Rusty Barrel

I just recieved a Nel-Spot 007. I inspected the gun and it was pretty dirty, but it had minimal rust. I took the gun apart, cleaned all the gunked up paint and grease inside, and inspected and lubed the o-rings. As I checked inside the barrel (I shot the gun before I took it apart and there were barrel breaks) there was rust. I know this is a common problem, but how should I get rid of it or possibly make it mirror polished? I heard fine steel wool is a common practice, but is it okay?

EDIT: Also, the feed tube caps (front and rear) are missing. Where can I buy the caps from?
