I wanted to start a discussion about if, how I should restore this classic Budd Orr Sniper. I've hung on to her through the years, so obviously, I see a reason to keep her. I'd like to restore her, but should I re-annodize her etc etc? that original barrel is about shot...over honed out and homemade muzzle break, so 80's style - lol! just looking for some help, suggestions, discussion would be appreciated! ![]() thanks! |

You could get a new barrel and keep the old one for show or you could get the old one drilled out for freak inserts. These old ribbed style barrels are sort of rare, but they do show up here from time to time for sale and aren't usually super expensive if you saw the need to get another one. If it was me I would get a nice PPS barrel or the equivalent and keep the old barrel for show. |

If you can find a period barrel in nice shape that would complete the picture other than you holding on to it and some action in the background. Now if you flip it over and it looks like deamons have been using it as a teething ring then that's different. But from the pics you're showing it looks freakin' MINT!

I didn't want to re-anno her and it destroy the historic value etc. Maybe a dust black anno??? not going to do any milling to lighten the body...nothing drastic i got it in the late 80's or 1990 - CustomCockers forum told me the specific year, make and model. 1989 Sniper 2. Stuff I couldn't recall... I do have a cut back block I can use on it and those extra bolts. I hung on to the original parts etc too. There was mentioned of boring the barrel for freak inserts. WHERE??? I have all the freak inserts and that would be pretty cool to use them in that barrel! Will current autococker valves work in a 1989 Budd Orr Sniper? I'm sure the other valve is fried & dried by now. I've been thinking about getting a Phantom, but have this pumpgun stowed away...time to get her out and working again! |

Throw some oil and air on it and fire it. I may be wrong, but I think any cocker/sniper valve will fit, but the newer valves may need different springs to conpensate for the lower operating pressure/higher volume valves. Bolts and cocking rods are a different length after 98 I believe. Don't mess with it, its just pretty the way it is !

| MCB Member | Well. You definitely do not need to anodize the gun. Waste of money..waste of everything. Adds nothing..if anything it detracts..worthless. If the barrel is actually raw and was actually honed by someone (internally) than I guess it could be overbored and the only thing left for it is to go all the way and bore it for freak inserts (any machinist can do this..some have tools) Maybe a newer regulator..maybe a new valve but what is in there probably works great. Really - cockers havent gone too far and neither have snipers. If that thing works than it works good, id bet. Barrels are all over. |

| MCB Member | Get the stock barrel bored for inserts... Get an asa... Screw tank on go play.. there its restored Ive got an original circa 92 sniper that Ive never changed a thing on and its smooth as butter to pump and shoots just as good as my modern guns.
