Avg. Barrel ID?

It used to be that the 10th ball in a tube would be sticking up a good 1/8" over the lip. The "normal" barrel ID would be around .687" or .689". A "Big Bore" gun like a Carter made to shoot Nelson paint was at least .691"+.

I've noticed that balls sit lower in the tubes now. So what would be considered the current average barrel ID? .684" or something like that?

Yup yup I know that barrel kits make this somewhat of a moot point. Yet what is the average?

Most common barrel ID nowdays is .688, or .689 I think. That's just what most barrel companies say. But this is probably because it fits *most* paint using an open bolt semi.

Most paint I run across is around ~.684ish.

Measuring the bore size using a 10 round tube is definately key. If i'm using a gun that i don't have a barrel kit for, that's usually how I tell if it's going to be a good day or not.

Thanks guys for confirming my suspicions! I'm thinking about putting together a new gun and the barrel I want is a single piece barrel. I'll probably end up buying two or three barrels but wanted to get a feel of what to start out with if I just purchase a single tube.

I use a LAPCO accushot kit (3 solid once piece barrels, .689, .687, and .684) on my Phantom which is my primary marker. I'm pretty happy with it. I too prefer one piece barrels to kits with backs and fronts.
